Photography
Hailing from Missouri in the US, I began my creative career as a Navy photographer. There were five years of top-secret missions—or, more honestly, plenty of time in a darkroom.
One studio. One point of contact.
I’m Aubrey—a designer, developer and animator who likes turning complicated ideas into things people enjoy using.

Hello, I’m Aubrey
I started behind a camera, fell in love with animation, discovered what computers could do and never really stopped exploring from there.
Today, Pixel Smith Studio brings those disciplines together: thoughtful design, 3D and motion, interactive learning and websites that solve real problems.
The scenic route
Hailing from Missouri in the US, I began my creative career as a Navy photographer. There were five years of top-secret missions—or, more honestly, plenty of time in a darkroom.
I followed the dream to the Art Institute of Philadelphia, studying traditional frame-by-frame animation just as computer animation was finding its feet. Then Toy Story arrived, and I was hooked.
After graduating, I focused on 3D stills, animation and interactive design. Over the next 25-plus years, that grew into extensive work creating online training for private providers.
Websites began as a side interest and gradually became a full-time craft. More than ten years ago, I made the leap into my own business—and have been building useful, good-looking things ever since.
Why a studio of one?
No layers of account management. Ideas, questions and decisions stay close to the work.
Design, code, animation and 3D can work together instead of being handed between disconnected teams.
I care about the outcome, not simply the handover. Your project gets proper thought and personal attention.
Coffee optional
I do my best work with people who care about what they are making. If that sounds like you, let’s talk.
